    You are rightly concerned about the top of the posts, but what about the bottom of the "groove"
    It is the bearing surface for the beam, and it might be decayed worse than the top of the post, since moisture can get trapped there.
    You might want to stab the post with a pick there, to see if the bottom of the groove is still solid.
