You must compete with thousands of nurses out there. But that shouldn’t discourage you. Remember, some countries are currently experiencing nursing shortages. You can get that dream nursing job. Use the following tips and tricks to land your dream nursing job today!

Find The Right Nursing Job

The nursing field offers different jobs. It’s important to select the right job for your career prospects. For instance, if you love working in a hospital setting, look for a job in a healthcare facility. Some nurses prefer working in a nursing home setting. You can also consider getting a job in a nursing school. Traveling nurse is also another exciting opportunity you can consider.

Consider your options. Be open to more positions. Being versatile in your job search will increase your odds of landing that dream job. Common areas you can look for a nursing job include:

  • Hospitals and clinics
  • Travel nursing insurance companies or agencies
  • Nursing homes and rehabilitation centers
  • Care provider in residential homes
  • Local government organizations and non-governmental organizations

When You Don’t Have Experience

Lack of enough experience is an issue for new graduates. A good number of positions require candidates with years of experience. In most cases, your nursing school will have networks. After identifying your ideal job, send applications. Draft a good cover letter. Polish your resume. Highlight your key strength. Your credentials, licensing, experience, as well as important skills should be touted in the resume. The cover letter should show the hiring manager why you are the best fit for that position.

A customized resume will help you stand out from the rest. Consider going through the job specifications. Tweak the resume to reflect the job specification. Read about the company first. Things like mission and vision should be reflected in the resume. The employer should see value in you.

Your resume should contain keywords in the job description.  Use the right fonts. Make it concise. Ensure that it doesn’t have any grammatical errors. Focus on short paragraphs. Don’t use complex words.

Follow Up

After sending your application, wait. Wait for a few days. The response will be issued within a few days. It can also take a month. Here, you need patience. If you don’t receive any response, don’t follow up so quickly. Wait at least 2-3 weeks before following up.

When following up, use courteous language. Draft a courteous email. Ask them when you can expect a response. Calling them is an option. However, wait for a response to the email sent. If there is no response, call them. However, if there is no response and you have tried following up 3 to 4 times, move on. That’s not your day. Look for another opportunity elsewhere.
