When TensorWave, an AI neocloud startup, pre=
-sells access to GPU computing that won=E2=80=99t come online until later t=
his year, buyers bid against each other a la eBay for the right to sign a l=
ong-term contract.<br><br>
"It's so scarce that whoever wants to pay th=
e most is gonna get it," said Piotr Tomasik, co-founder and COO of TensorWa=
ve.<br><br>
Recently, investors have grown wary of the h=
uge debt facilities neocloud operators, which sell access to their chip clu=
sters, have been taking on to finance their data center buildouts. But a sm=
all group of investors say the loans, backed by these contracts for future =
access rather than the chips themselves, are much safer bets than the mains=
tream narrative suggests.<br><br>
"You had abnormally high growth, abnormally =
high customer concentration, and abnormally high debt," said Antolin Garza,=
partner at Karmel Capital, which invested in CoreWeave, Lambda Labs and Cr=
usoe. "That was the cocktail investors had to navigate through." The market=
has persistently underweighted the value of the signed-contract backlogs, =
Garza said.<br><br>
And as the scarcity of compute resources wor=
sens, it has pushed more customers to pursue longer-term contracts with bet=
ter terms for neocloud providers. That in turn has changed the debt underwr=
iting conversation, Tomasik said.<br><br>
"The terms by which one of these contracts c=
an be cancelable are super small=E2=80=94like force majeure," Tomasik said.=
Even if a neocloud fails, most of these contracts are being written in way=
s to still protect the lenders, according to Tomasik.<br><br>
Even the companies offering GPU access witho=
ut an explicit bidding system say they're feeling the positive downstream e=
ffects.<br><br>
"If you had asked for a six-year contract ju=
st two years ago, people would laugh you out of the room, but that's not un=
common nowadays," said Kevin Cochrane, CMO at Vultr, adding that the compan=
y would pick a customer seeking a longer contract over a shorter one.<br><b=
r>
Unfortunately, these dynamics are not favora=
ble for smaller startups looking to access compute power from these provide=

Pantheon was one of the earliest buyers in t=
he market for secondhand fund stakes, having begun purchasing them from ins=
titutional investors in the 1980s. <br><br>
PitchBook spoke with Amyn Hassanally, global=
head of private equity secondaries at Pantheon, about dealmaking, potentia=
l conflicts of interest on continuation fund deals, and the Labor Departmen=
t's 401(k) proposals. <br><br><b>Last year was a record for the private equ=
ity secondary market. How=E2=80=99s 2026 shaping out so far?</b> <br><br>
Pantheon: 2026 has gotten off to an even bus=
ier start than 2025, and around this time last year, we had the "Liberation=
Day" announcement, which slowed things down in secondaries. We=E2=80=99re =
being extremely selective about what we're leaning into because there's muc=
h more deal flow than there is capital to absorb it. <br><br><b>Of the deal=
s coming across your desk, what is the quality of the majority of assets an=
d fund stakes?</b> <br><br>
On one end, where we tend to focus, is our h=
igh-quality buyout and growth portfolios. We just completed a sale of a por=
tfolio at about $750 million of [net asset value]. There were 12 managers i=
n the fund. We rate them as =E2=80=9CA=E2=80=9D and =E2=80=9CB=E2=80=9D man=
agers. Of those managers, 10 were =E2=80=9CA=E2=80=9D managers. So the qual=
ity we see in that part of the market is still very much there. You just ha=
ve to look for it. <br><br><b>How helpful is it to be on the LPAC when you=
=E2=80=99re considering a secondary purchase?</b> <br><br>
It gives us incredible insight into the asse=
ts we=E2=80=99re buying. <br><br>
Last year, we did a large LP portfolio trans=
action, and one of our blue-chip growth equity managers was one of four GPs=
across 18 funds. <br><br>
This GP is well known for the fact that if y=
ou=E2=80=99re an LP in their funds, you basically get only a paragraph [on =
how they=E2=80=99re performing], on each company, every quarter. But if you=
=E2=80=99re on the LPAC, you get pages per company.</td>
