I am quite adept at cooking and occasionally, when I see remnants on a plate, I ponder if those who dined were truly satisfied, despite their silence. Hence, when I dislike a dish, I refrain from voicing it to the cook, as it may wound their pride. Out of respect for their effort, I choose to stay silent.
There was a lady who struggled with cooking most dishes! Unfortunately, she passed away last spring, and I refrain from speaking ill of the departed, yet it must be said she had challenges with cooking. Her pasta was overdone to a mush, her chicken oven-cooked for over 6 hours, and her boiled cabbage was more water than cabbage! Her rice was gummy, akin to grits or mashed potatoes.
Perhaps I am fortunate, my friends who aren't kitchen-savvy typically ask for help. In our circle, we know who excels in what, and when it comes to less skilled cooks, we lend a hand.
When faced with poorly cooked food, if the chef is not a close acquaintance, my actions may reveal my thoughts. Unappetizing dishes remain on my plate untouched. In a restaurant setting, I may politely point out my dislikes or simply leave it without further comment.
